Yeshua ben Joseph
Yeshua ben Joseph
or Joshua son of Joseph
Let’s check this claim in the Book of Matthew.
Matthew has a manuscript dating back to 200-300 AD https://greeknewtestament.net/matthew-manuscripts and it is estimated to have been written about 50 AD, within about 17 years of Jesus Death.
In comparison the oldest manuscript fragment of the Talmud is dated by some to 750 AD https://tzvee.blogspot.com/2009/12/was-talmud-hullin-scroll-oldest-talmud.html This is almost 7 centuries after the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem commemorated on the arch of Titus.
Matthew 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
With regards to being the son of Joseph, it is plainly recorded:
Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
According to the Torah, the Law of Moses: (Exodus 12, 13, and 15) the firstborn male child is consecrated to the Lord. The child is then redeemed by bringing him to a priest and paying 5 shekels (in silver) to redeem the child from the obligation of temple service. Leviticus 12 also describes purification requirements for the mother by the way.
The day Jesus was brought to the temple for this consecration/redemption a man named Simeon was led by God to the temple. Simeon was waiting for the Messiah (Luke 2:25). This is what Simeon did according to Luke 2:28-32
28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
